Community Plan

The Community Plan was established in 2019 to further enhance our community presence through an increased financial investment that benefits communities and members throughout our footprint. Our intention is to increase our impact and presence in our communities, enhance relationships with key influencers, and demonstrate how we live our mission. Through these efforts, we also look for opportunities to increase community and member awareness of our community support.

In 2024, MSGCU was proud to utilize the Community Plan funds to support the following:

  • Ann Arbor Public Schools - When Ann Arbor Public Schools contacted MSGCU seeking assistance in securing safety glasses to complement their curriculum around the solar eclipse, we were excited to participate by providing 20,000 pairs of glasses to safely view the solar eclipse. This was a powerful and rare learning opportunity for students and our support helped the district bring its curriculum plans to life. Additionally, the Ann Arbor branch donated 500 pairs of solar eclipse glasses to those who stopped by the branch.

  • Mission Oakland - Given our long-standing dedication to first responders, MSGCU honored the bravery and commitment of Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Reckling who was fatally shot in the line of duty. A donation was made to Mission Oakland to support his surviving wife, three young daughters, and child on the way.

  • Rochester Hills Fire Department - In light of the mass shooting tragedy at the splash pad in the Rochester community this summer, a donation was made to the Rochester Hills Fire Department who were among the first to arrive on the scene. The fire department used donation to purchase much-needed tactical gear.

It has been MSGCU's goal to support initiatives that have a positive impact on our communities, demonstrate our People Helping People philosophy, and connect to our roots of helping educators and first responders.

Since its inception, MSGCU has used the Community Plan program throughout our communities. Below highlights our contributions to date which total $173,415 from 2019 through 2024. Against an original budget of $300,000, a balance of $126,585 remains for future support.
